Surrounded by old vineyards, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Bodegas Fos combines traditional viticulture and oenology with the most innovative processes. Our own vineyards let us travel all the way from the vine to the glass, with a high level of excellence where small details are the most important.
Bodegas Fos has a clear commitment to terroir wines and the exclusivity of a limited production destined for only a select few. It also has a unique architecture created by the renowned architect Enrique Muga, and it is located in the magnificent and spectacular landscape at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria.
The construction of the new facilities represents a new stage at Bodegas Fos—a stage we face with the enthusiasm and the experience acquired since the foundation of the winery in 2006. That year, we made the transition from the traditional Palacios Sáez winery to the new project, in order to give free rein to our passion of making great wines in one of the best terroirs in the world: Elciego, named by the first French winemakers who arrived, back in 1858, as the Spanish Medoc. On the other hand, and from a technological point of view, Bodegas Fos represents our commitment to meet the requirements of the deep-rooted tradition of the Rioja Alavesa.
New wines, such as Fos Baranda or Finca Zuriena, highlight our great differentiating factors: centenary Tempranillo and Viura vineyards, unique soils, and a special location for grape growing.
All this is possible thanks to our consumers’ support and the eagerness of the entire Bodegas Fos team. This could not be possible without them.

Surrounded by vineyards, Bodegas Fos combines tradition with process innovation. An area of 2,000 m2 gives our winery the exclusivity of a limited production destined for only a select few, and our own old vineyards allow us to maintain control over the production at all times
Knowing the elaboration techniques help us to better understand the work behind each of our wines: the production and ageing of our white and red wines, or the traditional production of those of carbonic maceration. The production and ageing are the final signature where native grapes from Álava terroir can reach the highest levels of expression. .

That knowledge and the extraordinary terroir at the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria are the raw materials upon which we produce our wines.

The soil is calcareous, shallow and not very fertile, with practically no organic matter and low fertility. Our vineyards soils are predominantly calcareous, others are clay-calcareous, and some are settled in rocky areas.
The submountain plateau where Fos vineyards are located has a marked inland Mediterranean nature: a temperate climate where winters are cold and summers are hot and dry, and where the average rainfall does not exceed 400mm per year—reaching its maximum during spring—, mainly due to the Foehn effect caused by the Sierra de Cantabria, north of Elciego, which limits the wet and cold influence of the Cantabrian Sea.
