Climate

To our north, the Toloño mountains hold back the cold and wet influence of the Atlantic Ocean. To our south, the river Ebro has been depositing sediment for centuries and softens the temperatures felt by the vineyards.

This location shares the continentalised Mediterranean climate found in central Rioja Alavesa, albeit with certain specific characteristics due to the altitude and morphology of an almost tree-less sub-mountainous plateau.

The summers are dry and the winters are cold. The significant winds from the north-west offset the rapid evaporation of precipitation and help to prevent or ease the winter frost. The average annual temperature is 12.8 ºC and the average level of precipitation is 570 mm per year. This low pluviometry is caused by the Föhn effect, popularly known as the “beret” effect, resulting from our vicinity to the mountains.
