The region known for centuries as Rioja Alavesa is a narrow strip of land some forty kilometres long and eight kilometres wide that extends along the southern edge of Álava, the province it has belonged to since the late Middle Ages, between the Toloño mountains and the river Ebro.

A land of wines since the Roman times, arrival of the master winemaker Jean Pineau in 1858 led Elciego to become the epicentre of modern winemaking in Europe. In 1925, Rioja became the first official denomination of origin in Spain.

The old and very old goblet-trained vineyards of Bodegas Fos, some of which are over one hundred years old, are located in the municipal district of Elciego and its surrounding areas.

Our vineyards cover a total area of 25 hectares and include a number of small plots with ancient family-owned vines that have always been worked using traditional methods.

We are committed to staying true to our heritage and have opted for the varieties that have been historically grown in Rioja: Viura, Tempranillo and Graciano.
