Our vineyards

El Roble

Located between Elciego and Villabuena, this estate lies in an area of good sunlight exposure comprising a ventilated balcony spanning some 2000 m2, of open, clay loam and limestone land in a north-west to south-east orientation.

The Tempranillo vines were planted over veins of rock more than 100 years ago and their low natural performance is the reason behind their strong oenological potential.

Río Seco

This small estate of 3,000 m2 is located on two east-facing hillside levels. It consists of sandy clay soil with sandstone rock. The small stream that cuts through the plot brings very little water to its vines, which are of unknown age but were recorded in the first viticultural census of 1920 when standard custom was to plant Tempranillo in lower regions and Viura in higher regions with better ventilation and sunlight exposure.

Piedras de Llecapajares

A vineyard first recorded in 1929 located on sloping bedrock in El Hoyo del Pintor, a spectacular location with views of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. [t1] With a north-east to south-west orientation, it is ventilated and perfectly exposed to sunlight. The clay loam soil contains countless blocks of rock from which the vines miraculously emerge in the form of candelabras. As was customary of the time, the Tempranillo vines were planted alongside white varieties and the two are harvested separately today.

Moraleja

An estate planted with Tempranillo and Viura in 1946 to the north-west of Elciego. The 7,500 m2 plot is covered in mostly permeable and aerated clay loam soil on a slight incline down towards a gully.

Vialba

An estate of 3.5 hectares on which stands the Bodegas Fos winery itself. To the north, 2.7 hectares of east-west facing Tempranillo were planted in 1970 while, to the south, 8,000 m2 of north-south facing Graciano were planted in 1975. The soil is a straw-coloured mix of clay and limestone with a low content of organic material that is balanced in structure and of high oenological quality.

La Portalada

In southern Laguardia, bordering Elciego and strategically located, this is an estate of great viticultural value.

Valcabada

In the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains, next to one of the Laguardia lakes, this estate is nestled on three hectares of open clay loam-limestone soil with a gently sloping double incline towards the centre. Planted in 1976 and at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest Tempranillo vineyards we operate. With a longer cycle than the others, it provides a very good ripeness balance.
